The Paucity of Women In Science

Is it me or is it a fact that there just too few woman writers in science. This was made clear to me about my list of fifty books chosen, and apart form Lisa Randall, i am struggling to come up with many female names in the physics, astronomy and cosmology fields, apart from Heather Cooper.

Fiction is only a small part of my reading habits, and generally, i am put off by front covers on paperbacks and hardbacks  that look as if they are only aimed at females. Even with philosophy one is hard pressed to come up with a female author.

In the field of history things are improving with fine historians such as Lucy Worsley,  but in general , apart from science fiction female intellectuals seem to be rather thin, or am i just looking in the wrong direction?
