Sunday Sogginess
Oct. 22nd, 2006 06:50 pmPicked up five books from Sandpiper's back room on Saturday. Some are for keeping and sone for selling on the stall,as well as another slab of vinyl by Cannibal and The Headhunters "Land of 1000 Dances" (Vampisoul LP).
The best find was "Dark Knights and Holy Fools, The Art and Films of Terry Gilliam" by Bob McCabe (St Martins Press,New York ISBN 0-7893-0265-9) for £1.An essential ingredient to those classic Monty Python TV programmes and films was the art and direction of Mr.Gilliam. Thus a bona fide essential purchase for me.
The weather certainly was wet and horrible today.Watched "Closely Observed Trains" on DVD - one of those newspaper freebies (The Independent on this occasion ,not my usual Guardian or Observer). Great Czech film from the mid-sixties and nice to have - even more so as a freebie.
Dipped into Resident to see what they had and to take a break from the showers outside. Bought a compilattion that looked interesting called "Innature" (Barge Recordings) as it was only £7.99. Got home and found it difficult to open the inner sleeve with the CD in it from the outisde cardboard cover and it was so tight i nearly damaged the whole thing. I then went on to thier website and it shows pictures of how to extricate the CD from the damn thing - believe me or not,it's true!!

Great collection with tracks by Circle , Loren mazzacane Connors, Animal Hospital, Geof Mullen and so on. Reviewed in the current issue of THE WIRE too - which i didn't know until i got home from my soggy day out.
TORCHWOOD starts tonight on BB3, an adult-orientated spin off from DR.WHO. Critical thumbs from the Guardian's Guide booklet (from Saturday).
