In Hove (Actually)

Today  GC and i traveled over to Hove as she had a few mystery shop visits. We first went to Newhaven tip to recycle some cardboard and then motored on to the posh end of the city.

We parked in the Tesco car park and walked up George Street. I popped in to see my mate Julian at Fine Records. Bought a CD by Finnish composer Einojuhani Rautavaara and his Symphony No. 7 for £3 on the Naxos label. I was very tempted by some Bob Dylan and Leonard Cohen CD's going cheap as well. I did not succumb though.

The shop has the best second classical album selection whether it be CD or vinyl.

I could spend all day there.

In George Street i popped into a Wetherspoons pub to have a beer and a can of the Bengali Tiger ale. Listened to a street singer and his guitar. he was good.

After perusing some charity shops i then walked from Hove to Brighton snapping some more pics along the way, including the venue, The Old Market, where i saw Electrelane and Faust live among others.

I stopped to look at the window of City Books because thy had a book i dearly want as it was featured in a Radio 4 book programme on the biography of Leonard Cohen some weeks back.

In Brighton i headed off to the charity shop which gives you three books for free, and then wandered off to the Evening Star pub (naturally). More details next post.

My gawd, an actual record store! With vinyl! And a book store that isn't a chain! Truly an enlightened area.

Well, you had to go and see Julian at Fine Records! Naxos has a very good reputation. It must have been hard to resist the Dylan and Cohan!

That record shop has to be like a lolly shop :)

The old market looks like a good venue.

I have a biography of Leonard Cohen from the library at the moment, but it's called Leonard, not a Broken Hallelujah.

I just love looking at your photos of towns and shops! It's probably been ten years since I last saw a record store!!

I'd love to transport myself to England and 'check out' some charity shops with you!!
