Answer for question 4486.

[Error: unknown template qotd]My most useful tool at home is the spatula i use for my eggs on toast. Comfort food at the best. It would be a great misgiving if i did not have it. I do lack a garlic crusher , as that would be most useful.

Back of a broad bladed knife works damn well as a garlic crusher!

Place garlic on chopping board, place knife blade on top, bring down fist.

Just what I was going to suggest!!

I think that goes against the appliance ethic. You're supposed to have a special, separate tool or machine for every little task. I'm saving up for a banana slicer!

Good set of pots and pans and standard kitchen tools- all of those high quality steel and a good set of knives does most things for me. In my case they're a good set of left handed knives.

As for electrickeral things- panini press, slow cooker and bread maker!

Not sure my head cook grandma would have approved of those last three though! :o)

With the popularity of head cooks, I wonder if anyone's yet invented a special crock pot for that?

She was certainly familiar with cooking a sheep's head! :o)

Thanks for that.

Is a tv considered an appliance? lol........

I would like to have a food processor, or maybe an ice cream maker. :)
Hugs, Jon

Now an ice cream maker sounds fab!

I tried to look for one last year I think it was, and just wasn't happy with any I saw. :p

For me, it's gotta be the microwave!

Yes, that is another kitchen appliance i would hate to be without.

My Kitchenaid mixer is my essential. I know it's not really an essential but it makes my baking life so much easier. lol

If you decide to get garlic gadgets, I recommend two:

The Ultimate Garlic Peeler
NexTrend Garlic Twist

How many people don't want you to have a garlic crusher. As for me - bed, anything where I can sleep. Once I had a rent offer with no furniture and the bed was my first concern.

[identity profile] robby.livejournal.com 2015-08-14 06:57 pm (UTC)(link)
You can also use the bed to crush garlic. Anything heavy.

sure

Especially for the downstairs neighbors.

My blood glucose tester. In theory, it's helping me extend my life span.

After that, it's probably my laptop. I spend more time on it than on anything else other than sleeping.

My cooking skills are so impressive... I'm not allowed to touch anything as complicated as a spatula :(

[identity profile] davesmusictank.livejournal.com 2015-08-15 02:41 am (UTC)(link)
LOL :)

SPATULAS ARE ESSENTIAL. I definitely love your answer here. :D

[identity profile] davesmusictank.livejournal.com 2015-08-16 01:08 pm (UTC)(link)
LOL !! Thanx!

If a tv or a computer is not considered an "appliance", then I would have to say I would be lost without my microwave. How odd that radiated atoms would have such a calming effect on me.

[identity profile] lora-diary.livejournal.com 2015-08-15 08:43 am (UTC)(link)

Multicooker.

[identity profile] kabuldur.livejournal.com 2015-08-17 11:12 am (UTC)(link)
I think we call that an egg lifter here and it sure IS useful!

You'd better invest in a garlic crusher, then. I've actually had three but now can't eat the stuff, more's the pity. Crushing it with the side of a largish knife is a very good way of doing it.

Trying to think what I like the best. Probably my fan forced over, which has a timer on it. Next to that, my double saucepan.

I'm astonished that no one else has named the refrigerator yet. As far as hand tools go, I'd name the can opener as hardest to improvise an alternative for.
