Saturday Gig and Sunday Music

Saturday i had the chance again to DJ down at The Druids Arms near the Level. Ben phoned me to say that he could not do it and I was first on his list. He said it would from 10 pm til 3am and that to bring my own needles and headphones.

Well the money alone would be good.

So I selected a bag of tunes and a box of singles and did my stint. I got the ladies dancing to some Latin salsa beats courtesy of Snowboy and His Latin Section and then later with some classic 70's soul and disco tunes.

It was a very successful night which even took the staff by surprise. I just hope I can get a more regular gig there.

They also have Dark Star Sunburst on tap at only £2.90 a pint, a bit cheaper than the Evening Star.

Sunday i was in the Evening Star with Nigel having a few drinks, and we swapped some music files from my laptop to his MP3 player and back. I picked up a whole section of Pink Floyd classics and an album by Gil Scott Heron and Isaac Hayes from his machine.

I gave him Jack Kerouac “Poetry For The Beat Generation” and the compilation “The Best Of The Beat Generation” . He is really getting into this hep cat music, daady-O!

Had a few Dark Star Triple beers (8.5 % ABV) during our file sharing session!

Writer's Block: Sultans of swing

[Error: unknown template qotd]

Yo man, the name is in the title. It would swing like a hep cat zoot suit, so naturally the music would be jazz with a bit of poetry thrown in. I would include two of Keouac tributes to jazz artists such as Charlie Parker and Dave Brubeck. I would have some free jazz in the mix and some cool fusion such as Weather Report's "Birdland".  The album cover would resemble one of those classic Blue Note album covers from the late fifties or  a very sixties cool chick shot like the one below. Cool graphics with a nod to Russian Constructivism is also considered for the design.

It would be the coolest hip jazz LP of the year!
