Tuesday Thoughts

Another miserable wet day and this time windier but milder. At least the late afternoon was dry. So, I decided to stay in and listen to music for part of the day and reading paperbacks for the other part. I stayed with classical music in general and took out from my collection the following.

Stravinsky – The Rite of Spring
Bartok – Music for Strings Percussion and Celeste
Mendelssohn – Scottish Symphony No. 3
Bartok – Bluebeard’s Castle

I have been re-reading the Howard Goodall book on the history of Western art music. I have now reached the turmoil of the twentieth century hence the music above except for Felix and his “romantic” age Scottish symphony.

I will probably continue with the more serial dodecaphonic avantgarde music of late-twentieth-century art music.

Tomorrow we will be back to normal days after the two public holidays we have had to endure. Hence the usual bus times are back, and I will be heading into town to meet Phil and Ewart for a few beers at my local pub in the afternoon. I might take a quick trip in the morning to Rainham to see what CDs I could get dirt cheap at the Sunburst Bookshop.
