Here We Go Again

In the words of Madame Vastra , the game is afoot. I won't give away any spoilers but as far as i am concerned it was a terrific start to the new series.

I am going to watch it again, maybe tomorrow. It was a well produced starter  leading towards the first new Dalek story  next week. Capaldi will be brilliant, a mixture of number one and number nine Doctors. More serious, more adult.

So guys and gals what did you think?

Capaldi

I was not convinced with Capaldi's Doctor. But then, I was not convinced with Matt Smith but grew to really like him. Maybe Capaldi will grow on me. Tennant and Smith are very hard acts to follow. There has been too much hype about Capaldi that ultimately left me rather disappointed.

I do think the Dalek episode might be much better.

I agree. I enjoyed it immensely, but maybe seeing it in a big crowd on a big screen was part of the enjoyment. I'm going to watch it again when it airs here tonight.

I'm really looking forward to the series. Clara irked mea bit through out the whole episode but she redeemed herself at the end.

I have grown to like her more.

Capaldi's great. I wasn't sure that the episode needed to be quite so long, as it did seem to flag in a couple of places, but it picked up again swiftly enough. I don't like Clara, and never have, so that's a bit of an irritation for me, but it would be my only complaint. Looking forward to the next episode!

I did rather enjoy it despite some of the silliness and the less so real dinosaur. I think Capaldi will mould it in to something more darker, and that Moffat should allow him to develop it as such. We have already seen this dark side with the murder of the lead droid. As for the Impossible Girl, i think we do need more development of her character. I am sorry you find her character irritating.

Oh, she's only a minor irritation. I'm used to being annoyed by the companions!

There is the potential for darkness here, certainly. It will be interesting to see how far they're prepared to go. Obviously it has to remain family friendly, but I have felt that it's been a bit too child-orientated at times since the return.

I probably won't watch until Monday. I usually watch with my roommate and he's at work. I won't have time tomorrow, as I will spend much of Sunday at the Minnesota State Fair. Thanks for being considerate about spoilers!

I'm just watching it now. It's around 35 minutes in and I'm enjoying it so far.

Just watching it here, too. Will probably watch when it's on again later, as well.

Looking forward to seeing this!! Eeeeee!!

It was lovely.

My one Hmmph is that I don't like the new arrangement of the theme song -- though I do like the credits. It seems odd that the original from 1963 sounds more futuristic than the one from 2014.

For me, there is no better theme tune than the original put together by Delia Derbyshire of the old Radiophonic Workshop. It was so futuristic.

So was i overall.

Nice to see the new gadgets too - in case you didn't know, the hatpin, the glove and the lorgnette were the three winners in a Blue Peter contest to design equipment for Madame Vastra, Jenny and Strax.
The problem is that the first full episode of a new Doctor and to a lesser extent, new series is always something of a shakedown exercise. I expect to see improvements and since I really enjoyed this episode - I'm in for the duration.

Does anyone know an inexpensive seamstress? I really want a copy of Clara's Victorian outfit.

I have it recorded, but I don't want to start watching it now because I am SOOOOOOOOOOOOO SLEEPY. I don't think I will make it through without falling asleep. :o
Hugs, Jon

I must admit to lagging seriously behind watching the modern-day Dr Who (I have only just gotten used to Matt Smith). Enjoyed last night's episode - I have a feeling that Peter Capaldi may become a new favourite in the 'Tom Baker' genre.

[identity profile] davesmusictank.livejournal.com 2014-08-24 05:29 pm (UTC)(link)
I think he could become my favourite as well.

Sad to say, I am not sold on this new Doctor. I've been an avid fan of the new iterations of the Doctor, but not this one. I like Clara. The only female character who comes close to her in looks (a rather shallow measure, I'll admit) was the Doctor's Daughter. It was no surprise to hear David Tennant ultimately married the actress who played 'his' daughter.

Matt Smith grabbed me immediately. I got to really enjoy David Tennant's Doctor. But Capaldi leaves me cold.

I was actually hoping they'd have the Doctor regenerate into a woman this time around. Too many old white males. Ugh.

I think he will grow on us. Though each to his own i guess.
