Midnight Hour

And so the midnight witching hour has arrived and i have this voodoo doll and a set of pins - to inflict pain and discomfort to any other chancer trying to defraud me of my money. I have a book of spells and a necromomicon as back-up .( demonic cackle in the background) -  I mean business!

Jazzy D Hits The Jazz

Apart from  watching  some old Big Bang Theory episodes (as they always make me laugh out loud), i decided to dig out some old Jazz CD's of mine this evening.

I started with this one by the The Muhal Richard Abrams Orchestra "Blu Blu Blu" (Black Saint) , which has a soaring evocative tittle track that is an homage to Muddy Waters.

I then followed it with a classic  1962 recording   of Sonny Rollins, "The Bridge" (RCA),   which has a wonderful version of God Bless The Child.

Ending with Ella Fitzgerald doing a collection of Cole Porter tunes from her "Cole Porter Songbook Vol 1" (Verve)

Goodnight folks.

Recommend A Good Book

A couple of books that i picked up some time ago, and relevant to the study of feminism,  one which is an historical account, Women in Britain Since 1900 by Sue Bruley (Palgrave) , and the other one from a sociological aspect , Women In Contemporary Britain, An Introduction by Jane Pilcher (Routledge).

The reason for mentioning these two books, is that i have just started reading the former one, as it is a subject i know very little about. I do welcome any other recommendations.

Poem Of the Week

Continuing the notion of Spring here is a poem about the season in a melancholic sense from D. H. Lawrence -

The Enkindled Spring
BY D. H. (DAVID HERBERT) LAWRENCE

This spring as it comes bursts up in bonfires green,
Wild puffing of emerald trees, and flame-filled bushes,
Thorn-blossom lifting in wreaths of smoke between
Where the wood fumes up and the watery, flickering rushes.

I am amazed at this spring, this conflagration
Of green fires lit on the soil of the earth, this blaze
Of growing, and sparks that puff in wild gyration,
Faces of people streaming across my gaze.

And I, what fountain of fire am I among
This leaping combustion of spring? My spirit is tossed
About like a shadow buffeted in the throng
Of flames, a shadow that's gone astray, and is lost.

Rainham Visit

This morning I walked into Sittingbourne (about three miles) for an interview at the JC. Had to wait ten minutes before being seen, and did not leave till midday.

The consequence of this will be a one week course next week being held held on another floor at The Office , to which i will have to attend. At least they have paid my travel expenses upfront today.

I then caught a train over to Rainham, two stops from  Sittingbourne,  as i had some paperbacks to sell , since there is a bookshop that buys books, and for the life of me, I cannot remember the name of the shop. It wasn't much, a mere £2, and I ended up buying a CD for a quid from the proceeds. I then caught a train back to the village.

It has been a lovely warm day until the afternoon when it clouded over and became hazy. It may be all that Saharan dust coming over with other pollutants from Europe, mixed in with our own pollutants,  in the atmosphere being the cause of it.

The CD is a 1990 album by George Benson with The   Count Basie Orchestra , "Big Boss Band"

Oh No!

Oh hell, now i cannot find my debit card but i have a feeling i might know where it is. I used it last time just after midday today, inside my bank, and the bank person was  holding it whilst checking something on my account. However, i do not remember her giving the card back to me.

I shall hotfoot it back to the building society tomorrow for when they open up before i panic!

I only just realized that  it was missing ten minutes ago,
