Having had a couple of bagels for breakfast here is the perfect brekkie tune, and yes more jiving jazz, this time from Slim Gaillard and Dunkin' Bagel.

Hellzapoppin'

This is also great. Made me smile. Slim Gaillard and Slam Stewart from the film Hellzapoppin' (1941) - The Harlem Congeroos.

Slim Gaillard - piano, guitar
Slam Stewart - bass
Rex Stewart - trumpet
Elmer Fane - clarinet
Jap Jones - trombone
CP Jonstone - drums

Awesome dance sequence that's part of a movie chuck-full of fun stuff. I love it!

Enjoy

Jazz Listening Day

I was going to Canterbury today but as it is a day of rail replacement buses decided to stay in and listen to some music. That is what i am doing now, after hoovering and cleaning the bathroom, having eggs on toast and a pint of canned beer.

Starting with an Ahmad Jamal CD , Night Song, on Motown's short lived jazz label MoJazz., and it is pretty good, really funky in places and not a hint of that smooth jazz that peppered the eighties and nineties.

Found this for a quid in a charity shop, Cheapest used Amazon copy is over sixteen quid. So i got me a bargain.

On the album there is this great funky version of the M.A.S.H theme.

Ray's Jolene

That Ray LaMontagne CD is very influenced by folk troubadours such as Nick Drake, and as it is on the same label as Damien Rice's first album, then i am not so suprised. On that CD is a track called Jolene (nothing to do with the Dolly Parton song) but in this case i have chosen a live BBC 4 version.

Enjoy.

Now listening to Rimsky Korsakov's "Scheherazade"

Yep, i am so ecelectic.

Telly Watching

After the music listening i decided to catch up on some telly watching. I rarely watch television these days and tend to use the laptop or tablet for watching. However, as cousin had downloaded a film from Sky Movies i watched that today.

So out came the 3D glasses, a couple of canned beers by my side,  and i watched "Gravity" in 3D. Great film, excellent special effects and Sandra Bullock was just brilliant.

I then watched a couple of New Tricks before watching the latest Doctor Who episode. Florence came in to watch TV with me and fell asleep on my lap.
