Sunny Sunday

Afternoon dear readers.

I have been sunbathing again as it is a glorious day here.

Listening to the radio as well.

Smoking my pipe.

Just Wondering

Is there something you consistently eat, even though you know it will give you 'issues' later?

Were you afraid of something under the bed or in the closet when you were a kid?

Does (Did) your pet bring you gifts?

Book 60 - Jim Dodge "Fup :A Modern Fable"

Jim Dodge " Fup: A Modern Fable" (Canongate)

Some love stories lack romance. Some comic novels contain no jokes. Some simple stories are unsuitable for children. Fup is all of these. An old reprobate gambler turned distiller takes custody of his orphaned grandson. Years later they adopt a huge duck. The plot, however, is not the point. And defining the point involves reprising the book.

It was charming and amusing short novella, and a great book to read out loud. Some people have tagged this as a young adult or even children's literature, but it's really not - it's full of obscenities, gambling, and drinking (which is, of course, part of what makes it so fun). I have to confess I'm not quite sure what to make of the ending, but the book is delightful.
