Prog Rock Classics
More classic prog rock - yep i am in that mood folks -
King Crimson - Epitaph
In his 1997 book Rocking the Classics, critic and musicologist Edward Macan notes that In the Court of the Crimson King "may be the most influential progressive rock album ever released".
The album was remastered and re-released on vinyl and CD several times during the 1980s and 1990s.

R.I.P. Keith Emerson
As a tribute to this king of the keyboard a couple of classic prog rock grooves from him and and his bands.
The Nice - Hang On To A Dream
The Nice - America
Emerson Lake and Palmer - Tarkus
TArkus still remains my favourite ELP album , esp. this long 20 min title track - it conveys what prog rock was all about with complex time signatures and , based on motifs and extemporization, plus an unfolding sound and groove similar to classical music and modern jazz, makes this one album alone a highlight.
I also played this vinyl LP as well.

Today's Finds In Seaford
I walked into teh town centre this morning and came back with some food items. Whilst going around the shops i presumed the charity shop and came out with these CD's for a quid each.
:format(jpeg):mode_rgb():quality(96)/discogs-images/R-2623615-1293760942.jpeg.jpg)
A double CD of the best of Yes.
:format(jpeg):mode_rgb():quality(96)/discogs-images/R-4336854-1362136348-7913.jpeg.jpg)
That UK BUffy compilation on the Fox Music/EMI/Mutant Enemy/BBC co-label is worth thirty quid on Discogs! Yay!
Last two hours have been spent sunbathing in GC's garden.

R.I.P. Chris Squire (Yes)
For me, one of the seminal bands of the seventies was Yes. Yesterday , their base guitarist Chris Squire passed away.

Today I Have Mostly Been Listening To ....
Apart from popping over to Rainham to sell books for a mere three quid (thankfully a free train ride in both directions) i have been mostly a man of leisure today. Yep, still awaiting that damn payment.
Anyhow, been listening to a smorgasbord of music , and a few items i had not listened to before during my charity shop scavenges. Top of the list goes to the discovery on Fat Cat Records, which is this one.
:format(jpeg):mode_rgb()/discogs-images/R-4007194-1352116537-5131.jpeg.jpg)
Gregory And The Hawk - Moeni and Kitchi
Albert Hammond Jr. - ¿Cómo Te Llama?
Nobody & The Mystic Chords Of Memory - Tree Coloured See
Secret Machines - Ten Silver Drops
:format(jpeg):mode_rgb()/discogs-images/R-2754805-1299543494.jpeg.jpg)
Of the four played so far try he most inventive and enjoyable is the Gregory CD.

Echoes
Final piece of music for the late night and a long LP side of a track from one of my favourite prog rock albums , Pink Floyd and Echoes from the album Meddle.
Enjoy.
It is also to educate Jon,
thespian15, about other Floyd music apart from The Wall.

Today's Finds
I walked into Sittingbourne this morning and found some bargain CD's at the Demelza charity shop -
Doobie Brothers - Greatest Hits
George Benson - The Very Best Of ..
The Cooper Temple Clause - Make This Your Own
The Mars Volta - Deloused In The Comatorium
The last two are particularly excellent , all four for a quid too.
From The Cooper Temple Clause i have chosen this track , All I See Is You.
The Mars Volta make loud prog rock and for the defining track from an album that just fizzles with inventiveness is this one, Cicatriz ESP , all 12 minutes of it.
I suggest you play these two tracks LOUD! Enjoy.
Tomorrow i shall be travelling early to Kings Hill, an area just south of West Malling for a potential vacancy in a market research company.and then up to Sevenoaks to do a mystery shop.

Sky Watching Morning
Recently i was re-reading Arthur C Clarke's short story, The Sentinel, which years later became the basis for the film and novel 2001 A Space Odyssey. The ape like creatures at the beginning of the novel looked up at the stars, wondering much like us i guess, is their life out there in the universe. Then digging out a couple of early 70's prog rock albums by Genesis before they became , IMHO, substandard, with the leaving of Peter Gabriel and the emergence of Phil Collins, a track from Foxtrot , which although not related to the Clarke novel or short story, yet one of my favourite tracks, is called Watcher Of The Skies.
Enjoy.
Enjoy.
Music Finds Today
This morning i caught the bus
To Tunbridge Wells without a fuss
And then to leafy Sevenoaks.
Had a beer with some blokes,
Whom bought loads of cheap music.
So off i went at haste and quick
To the charity shop with the good stuff
Loads of cheap CD's , and just enough
For me to pick out four
Of groovy music to explore.
All four came only to a quid,
And I was like an excited kid.
Thus here are the four that i will explore.

Compilation of hip hop, R&B and pop grooves by the producer.

The Mars Volta - Deloused In The Crematorium , a heavy metal prog rock groove.

Various Artists - Rio Evolution Vol. 1 , cool funky house flavored jazzy Brasilia grooves. Awesome!

Giles Peterson - Worldwide 2 , my main man on a funky jazz tip groove.
Sound clips will be done tomorrow as i have yet to do a couple of reports to put online whilst listening to the music.
