Sunday Strut
Sep. 26th, 2021 03:47 pmWell, the good weather is virtually over now. Tomorrow it will be more autumnal. Oh well, it had to happen.
So, after a gloriously sunny Saturday, today I have been relaxing just playing music and doing some reading.
Lunch was another spicy pasta dish with loads of garlic, pesto sauce, and grated cheese. Simple and delicious.
I also dug out a CD box set I have not played for ages! I wanted something really funky and you cannot get funkier than this set. Certainly from disc two onwards as the first disc is doo-wop, soul and blues mostly. But the fact that even these older tracks make this album a special collection and a must for all soul music fans.

This quintessential box set was released in 1991 and was a Wire Winner in the June issue.

Yep, you cannot stop tapping your toes to this one. Shake your butt time!!

Following on from
coming42 posting Portuguese Love by Teena Marie here is the other version that I use to play often back in the noughties down at the Northern Lights.
Bah Samba - Portuguese Love
Alice Russell is on vocals.
In early 1996 Julian Bendall, Kevin Alexander and Geoff Holroyd (the surnames of which make up the Bah) formed a loose group of naturally talented musicians to play live and maybe record a few songs whilst experimenting with the fusion of traditional musicianship, dance, and modern recording techniques at Midi. In fact, I knew Julian well as he also drank at The Evening Star pub, my local in Brighton.
This track was on their 2005 album Bah Samba 4 and the track was on single as well and 12" with remixes including Jazzanova's version.
They also did this one with Roy Ayers no less - and I had that direct from Julian one day straight after the pressing was done. Yep, hot of the press!
Roy Ayers & Bah Samba - Positive Vibe (Roy's Groove)
ENJOY

Jun. 30th, 2021 11:44 pmAnd now some from the following period.
Eric Burdon & War - Spill The Wine (1970)
Yes - Yours Is No Disgrace (1971)
But then I got sidetracked by something else on YouTube.

More Northern Lights Memories #2
Apr. 25th, 2021 09:49 amHi folks,
Just to remind you that if you are in Brighton tonight I shall be spinning the vinyl at the Northern Lights from 9pm till late -
Jazzy D is in the house!
That was my tagline for the Feb 11,2012 gig.
Peter King – Ajo
Bishop Norman Williams – Hip Funk
Thelma Houston – Baby Mine
Tamiko Jones – Pearl
Patrice Holoway – Stolen Hours
Had to play some northern soul as some lads and lassie came in wanting to hear it. Luckily I had a small box of twenty such rare gems. Takes me back to my Northern Soul Days back in the 70s!!
ENJOY

More Northern Light Memories #1
Apr. 25th, 2021 09:13 amHere is another blast from the past - another gig at the Northern Lights from June 2012, and I noted in my blog that " there were still problems with the decks and they had two cartridges but only one was viable, and thus I was using one turntable and the laptop in combination", although normally I would be using two decks.
So here are four tunes from that night which were vinyl - all 7 inch 45s except for the Triste Janeiro as I found a repress of the LP.
Andy Williams - House of Bamboo
Sinto - Man On The Bank
Triste Janero - In The Garden
Sapo - Been Had
