Canterbury-based folkies Sprirogyra disbanded in 1974 after three albums which received little attention. However, their female singer Barbara Gaskin after completing her degree at Kent Uni. in the city met Dave Stewart. They became part of Dave's band Hatfield and the North

Together, in 1981, they had a hit, a number one single in the UK with a cover version of the song "It's My Party".

Dave Stewart & Barbara Gaskin - It's My Party

It is weird she did such an obnoxious version of a pop song. because the lass has worked with such out there avant-garde luminaires such as Egg, Peter Blegvad, National Health, and Bill Bruford, formally of Yes.

Spirogyra (Vocals: Barbara Gaskin) - Time Will Tell

National Health - Starlight on Seaweed

Egg - I Will Be Absorbed

Egg, The Canterbury band that released only three organ-prominent albums! After guitarist Steve Hillage left the band Uriel (also known as Arzachel), the other members, keyboardist Dave Stewart (organ, piano and tone generator), bassist Mont Campbell (also organ, piano and French Horn), and drummer Clive Brooks reformed themselves as a trio. They released a pair of eccentric, complex, mostly-instrumental albums in 1969 (Egg) and 1970 (The Polite Force) before splitting up. Stewart joined Hatfield & The North at that time, and Egg reformed briefly to record one more album, The Civil Surface, in 1974. Their music is very structured and composed, with classical pieces Johann Sebastian Bach and some light jazzy influences.

Now I wonder is this Dave Stewart is the same one who met up with Annie Lennox to become the Eurhythmics?
