There's so much to be said for these older stations, built with a sense of civic purpose, not merely utilitarianism. Which is why, I suppose, I've felt so uncomfortable with the work being carried out at the local station, where they're building a new passenger bridge. Which would be fine, except, we already had a perfectly nice subway, with gentle slopes leading down and up, perfectly friendly for anyone pulling luggage along, or in a wheelchair. But rather than supplementing it with the new construction, they've completely taken it away, including the Victorian awnings covering either end. *sigh*
