Penny Dreadful

jazzy_daveJust finished watched the DVD set of Penny Dreadful Season One. What a brilliant period drama full of that Gothic horror and supernatural events that Victorians loved to read.
The series draws upon many characters from 19th-century Irish and British fiction, including Dorian Gray from Oscar Wilde's "The Picture of Dorian Gray", Mina Harker and Abraham Van Helsing from Bram Stoker's "Dracula", Victor Frankenstein and his monster from Mary Shelley's "Frankenstein", and Dr. Henry Jekyll from Robert Louis Stevenson's "Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde." Some great actors in it too - Billy Piper and Timothy Dalton to name but two.
Well worth picking up if you see it on DVD. I look forward to finding the next season on DVD.
