Tate and Lyle
Mar. 13th, 2006 10:30 pmPlayed the "Tropicalia" CD quite alot since i purchased it midweek last week, and played it again most of Sunday. It's a superb compilation from the very resourceful Soul jazz lable. I must get up to the barbican for the Tropicalia exhibition before it disappears.
Popped into Brighton Books today to see Stephen and he gave me a free copy of the latest Tate magazine which has Billy Childish on Kurt Schwitters "Opened By Customs" and a few other intersting articles inc. "The Aesthetics of Documentary" and "Bauhaus".
Stephen mentioned a possible Ivor Cutler DVD coming out soon, which i hope will not be too long coming. It would be quite a fitting tribute to a man who did so many John Peel sessions. I am certain there is quantities of archive material yet to be unearthed.
Did a survey for Tesco in Teddington and finished just after 6pm. Didn;t get time to moosh the charity shops for goodies and actually i am saving up to get the Joe Busard box set of his Fonotone classics.
Received an unexpected phone call this evening from Lyle Thomson, a friend i haven;t heard from for three years, reminded me of the time when we last met in a heated argument over the merits of Rothko and other abstract expressionists versus the Pop Art of the Warhols,Jasper Johns, etc. I think i won the argument by a short margin. We didn;t fall out or anything. He was off to the USA for a sabbatical in California but he's now back in London. Hope to meet up next weekend. Probably a good time to see the Tropicalia exhibition.
Well bye for now and hello to virgin blog reader Georgina. Comment if you feel like it.
