As you may or may not be aware (check my interests in User Info) i have a very catholic broad taste in muisc which can be generally defined as non-commercial and non-mainstream (rarely touching either). Well Saturday i was over in Hove picking up the duplications of the Vitamin B12 gig DVD-R and as i was walking down George Street i remembered that i ordered a CD which Julian said was now waiting for me.Being on Naxos it was cheap, £9.74 for a double CD by John Adams, his post-minimalist opera "I Was Looking At The Ceiling and Then I Saw The Sky" with the libretto by June Jordan, who was a writer and civil rights activist. So i do occassionally buy the odd opera CD.

Previous opera purchases would have been John Adam's "Nixon In China" last year, then a very long pause after that. Most of my opera collection is contemporary in nature except for Tchaikovsky's "Eugene Onegin",Mozart's "Magic Flute",and Handel's "Amadigi". 2oth Century opera starts with Stravinsky's "The Rakes Progress",Richard Strauss "Salome", Schittke's "Life With An Idiot" and Sir Harrison Birtwisstle's "The Mask of Orpheus",not forgetting John Casken's "Golem".

This morning popped to the boot fair at the station and bought some LP's at a £1 each. Some goodies too. So to start with "Chinese Classical Music, Recordings by John Levy" (BBC Records LP), Bix Beiderbecke "Great Original Performances 1924 - 1930" (BBC Records LP), Della Reese "Della Della Cha Cha Cha" (RCA 1960), Lionel Hampton "Steppin' Out 1942 - 1944" (MCA 1980),Celia Cruz "Introducing ... The Queen of Salsa" (Caliente 1988)and finally Laurel and Hardy "The Golden Age of Hollywood Comedy" (UA 1975). A fine set of stuff indeed.

I also popped into Resident and bought the Alpha Boy's School "Music In Education" CD on Trojan. Fine collection from cool jazz to ska and reggae. A winner in my books!

I was going to do some work but the wife wanted to go shopping with me. It meant she shopped and i payed up. First we went to Debenhams and i bought two slver necklqaces for her - mind you at half price - for £20. A leather purse from Lulu Rose in Kensington Gardens for £5 in the sale, a coffee at The Dumb Waiter and we also popped into Snoopers (her first time there) but didn't buy a thing (thankfull). After paying for the Fonotone box set,Alpha boys and boot fai stuff my wallet needs a liitle rest.

The DVD from the gig will initially be sold on Ebay to gauge reaction to it. I might at a later stage create a webpage for it.It is really a question of available time to do it.

I have been on Ebay for quite awhile but now have started a shop on ebay as its a flat monthly fee and listings are cheaper as well, and shop items are not limited to the ten days max. The site is http://stores.ebay.co.uk/davesmusictank/.
