11/ James MacMillan - Symphony "Vigil" (BIS CD 1997)
12/ John Zorn - Godard / Spillane (Tzadik 1999 CD) - anothetr reissue of two earlier pieces.

The John Casken CD single was a recent find in London for £1,and now is my third Collins Classic single - the others being Harrison Birtwitle's "Earth Dances" and Robert Saxton's "In The Beginning".I think they produced six in total and then promptly deleted them. Only NMC and Elektra Nonesuch produced CD singles which in the classical world is a rare beast indeed, and a s far as i know,NMC are the only company still doing them. Contemporary classical music i think such as these mentioned are well suited to the format and should be encouraged. THe Kronos Quartet did 4 such singles, and i have one by George Benjamin on Nimbus "Piano Sonata" - which is excellent.

What a warm hot day it's been - but not complaining.Stuck inside Habitat for awhile though so tried to finish that one quickly. and get outside and feel the warmth. Had a nice coffee outside Nero's in the sun, just watching the world go by.

Bought "The Yellow Princess" by John Fahey (Vanguard CD 2006) which has just ben reissued with extra tracks. Originally from 1968 it shows John in one of his finest acoustic guitar picking and strumming moments ,his eighth album. It covers various folk styles and is quite bluesy in places Folk albums have never been so good as this one. A good one for long summer days.

Picked up a few £1 books from Sandpiper Book's back room. Two architecture books and one art book, which i will read first and then maybe put them on the stall at a profit once Sandpiper has sold out of them. They are "Building A Better Future" by Robert Elwell (John Wiley and Sons 2000) paperback (ISBN 0-471-98707-7),"Architrctural Expressionas" by Tony and Peter Mackertich (John Wiley and Sons 2001) paperback (ISN 0-471-49667-7) and "Art from Impressionism To The Internet" (Prestel Sightlines paperback ISBN 3-7913-2221-4) - a handy pocket guide to Modern Art.

Forgot to mention another artist at the Tate Modern i was impreesed by - Brian Juhgen. He is part of a younger generation of artists amid an active scene in Vancouver,Canada.Born to a First Nations Mother and a Swiss-Canadian father this dual heritage with the tensions and links between aboriginal traditions, pop culture and cosumerism, often provide the themes and subject matter for his art.For the Tate he has a giant large red flag made up of found material which was what impressed me mvery tactile and thought provoking.

Details about the artist is at http://www.tate.org.uk/modern/exhibitions/jungen/default.shtm ,and there is an interview with him (as a PDF file) at http://www.tate.org.uk/modern/exhibitions/jungen/Brian_Jungen_interview_web.pdf .
