Return of the 7" Vinyl
Sep. 17th, 2006 08:03 pmQuick visit to the boot fair at the station revealed more good stuff for the stall at 50 pence each, plus a Taschen book on Japanese graphics, and a couple of 7" singles. Actually,a BBC TV news item this evening highlighted the fact that the old 7" single has made a comeback achieving sales of over the million mark again after a decade of being in the doldrums. It is teeenagers who are buying them again lured by the physical beauty and appeal of the vinyl format. So another nail in the coffin to those who thought black vinyl was dead.
I put out the Joyce LP out on the stall recently for £3 and it sold within five minutes of putting it out.Still i know of a secret supply of such Brazilian classics where more Joyce LPs can be bought new for £1 each - and its my secret so there!!
Anyway discussing one hit wonders and singles of the moment with Steviecat a few days ago made me think of this one by Sheena Easton "Nine To Five" which was one of the two 7" singles purchased tday - price 20p in tip top condition. The other one,a real one-off record of the moment as it pertains to that late seventies and early eighties southern soap opera Dallas and its called "Who Shot J.R.Ewing?" by T.R Dalllas (Youn Blood 7") from 1980.A country-ish ditty. Wonder if Steviecat might be interested in it.
