Crate Diggin' Time
Mar. 18th, 2007 09:45 amA quick foray around the car boot sale at the station this morning revealed a nice Capitol pressing LP of "Voice of The Xtabay" by Yma Sumac for £2 and from a 50p box some cheesy seventies TV commerical music via Studio 2 records called "Take A Break" by The Robert James Orchestra (see my WEIRDSOUNDZ site) and three CD's of Italian film music (at £2 each) i have not come across before. Two days ago in Hove picked up a fairly good condition copy of the London cast of "Hair" for 75p , noting that Fine Records had a mint LP copy of the original Broadway version for a whopping £12 so might have to do an exchange to get that one.
The Hove YMCA are selling vinyl at 25 pence a throw so picked up a James Last LP and a Bert Kaempfert LP for 50p but neither had a real funky tune on it except for a cool version of Laura Nyro's "Stoney End" on the latter but at 25p you don't mind making the odd "oh dear it's crap" mistake" so often. Now if i could find a nice copy of the RCA Hair LP for that kind of price i'd be smiling.
Addendum - played the Yma Sumac LP and f ound it too crackly and noisy, and noticed deep scratches on it, so went back and picked a Focus LP instead "In And Out of Focus" (Sire LP 1973). Usually the guy's stall has Lp's in excellent condition, not the Sumac one though. No quibbles, just exchanged it for the Focus LP.
