World Grooves
Sep. 12th, 2007 07:42 pmLast night did a PRS DJ visit at Saint James Pub going towards Kemp Town - all vinyl and mostly indie / alternative music (not my favourite form (unless its Mercury Rev or such like). The DJ did play some tunes i did know and also Lee Hazlewood's
Started at just after 8pm and finished at around 11 pm so not too late back.
Today was a visit to Lewes Road to stand outside Costcutter and accost people coming out of the shop for a short interview. Got about 12 interviews done which is really good for this store being where it is!
Some more vinyl grooves bought cheaply.
Also just noticed that i had missed the Bootfair Club night as it had passed by last Friday night, which coincidentally was the same night that the Colour Out of Sound festival started,(and I had assumed it was this Friday). Bugger it - so now I will have to wait til October for the next one.
Might start looking elsewhere to DJ such as the Saint James or The Art House (or other venues i know which has a good vinyl policy). Now I have the taste and urg to give people the funk!
Anyway the LP's picked up today are one from Wax Factor and the rest from charity shopping.
"Rhythm Divine Vol.2" (Dino)- double LP of soul grooves from the eighties and seventies. Second disc is decidedly crackly whereas the first disc is absolutely fine for ten tracks a side (well quality will go down if you squeeze too many tracks per LP side),but for £1.49 it will do.
Letta Mbulu - Letta (A&M 1978) a promo album with some nice summery world funky tracks.
Terry Callier - Stripper / Africa Now (Mr Bongo 2004 7" single)
The Impossibles - Hot Pepper (Philips) - reissue of rare funky stuff from Thai band (oh yes Thai funk)
Nice geting the Thai group and a real surprise. Goes well with those Thai Beat A GoGo compilations.
