The Hanbury
Dec. 18th, 2007 07:40 am A really cold day and not one for door knocking door to door. Most of the morning got rid of some paperwork, and then posted jobs of including a PRS live visit i did at the Hanbury Club in deepest Kemp Town end of Brighton on Saturday evening.
I knew The Hanbury years back as a good live venue with floor space to dance not bloody tables to eat at - the last time seeing Why? (from the excellent but sadly recently disbanded Cloudhead hip hop troupe),The Books and The Chap on the same billing. That was a memorable night with great music.
Now it has been turned into some yuppy-fied overclassy eatery with live band type of place similar to the Komedia but swankier. In other words a cabaret nightclub which isn't my scene at all.
Why did they have to change it? I doubt i would go there again.
For those who have not heard of Why? , The Books or The Chap three links below about all three groups -

This must have been around 2005 when i saw them in the one billing. None are in the typical indie bracket which you would find at The Pressure Point and the Hanbury always had the quirkier type of band which these three exemplify.
