Yesterday evening a PRS visit to the County Oak Pub in deeepest Patcham to do a jukebox survey - jotting down what is being played on a didital jubebox for 2 hours. Not a bad job and having a pint of Harveys Best at the same time.

We were  made  welcomed  as a guest visitor.

Got to sort out some ethnographic music ( i.e field recordings) for a guy on VG+  for a trade to get a rare-ish Laura Lee LP on Hot Wax that i want. Classic soul produced in the early seventies by Holland-Dozier-Holland when they left the stables of Motown.I ofered him a Buddhist temple Chant Lp on Lyrichord but he;s got that one already! So i shall sort out all my field recordings anfd PM (private message) him later today.

Back to the cruise survey again but i shall do it around midday onwards when it is a bit warmer

With Barnsley putting out Liverpool in the FA Cup there is now only three Premier teams left in the competition, and two of them play each other in the quarter-finals (Manchester United vs Portsmouth) with Chelsea entertaining Barnsley. So there is a possiblity of one of the lower division clubs reaching the FA Cup final - and i am all for the underdogs to get there. I shall look forward to the results come weekend of March 8th to see who survives the next round.

Finally finished reading two Gil Scott Heron novels, and quite surprised i got through them quickly, a measure of how good they were. "The Vulture" and "The Nigger Factory" are the only two extent novels by the poet and musician, and damn fine reads too.

Last night at the PRS visirt ,expecting it to be quite quiet, I took another book to read, specifically "Offbeat, Collaborating With Kerouac" by David Avram, which I started earlier that day. However,as there was a pool competition, the jukebox was used quite alot and i recorded 24 songs played! Little chance of reading the book til the bus journey home again.

It is strange really,as i am not a big novel reader and prefer factual books, especilly on music and arts,so it is rare for me to read a novel as usually i never complete them.

Postie arrived with a parcel for me in the last few minutes - some records from Flytipper (VG+ forum geezer) - i had been waiting for the post anyway!! He couldn't find the Mandingo Lp in his pile or stash of vinyl but will post on if he does find it,

Anyway received the following -

Eartha Kitt - Not So Old Fashioned (MFP) , this is a VV classic which i already have,so one fror home and one for DJ nights etc.Donovan's "Hurdy Gurdy Man" is sublime on this elpee.
Henry Mancini - Film Music By ...  (RCA LP)  - nice one! Sitar party groove in "The Party"
Liberace - A Brand New Me (Warner Bros) -  a version of  Johnny Harris "Footprints On The Moon"
Acker Bilk - The Acker Bilk Saga (Polydor 2LP) with Acker Raga groove on it

Definitely some here to play next Bootfair Music Club night..

Question Who has $3,000,000.00?

The world's greatest record collection is in need for a new home!

http://www.thegreatestmusiccollection.com/

From Thomas Edison to American Idol, it's the complete history of the music that shaped five generations.

3 Million Records
300,000 Compact Discs
More Than 6 Million Song Titles

They’re seeking a buyer who will guarantee to keep the collection intact (other than to sell duplicate copies, if so desired) and to keep the music alive for the enjoyment and music lovers, now and for years to come.

It's up for sale on eBay:

My favourite part of the eBay listing is the line just under the space where you enter your bid:

"Get $10 back on this item See Details"

Hello record junkies .. but if you haven't ssen the previous post refer back to it. Consodering how huge the collectiom is it begs the question of how much chuff to good stuff is as a  ratio of the collection.

A bell curve such as this seems to be the outcome of such expectations.  I feel that whoever is the buyer will have a lifetime of surprises and disappointments in equal measure.

That is me in disguise selecting the next batch of stuff for my DJ nights (tee hee)..

And talking of vinyl ...

Some recent chazza finds from a quid down to 25 pence are -

Various "Shades  of Folk" (Contour LP) - featuring Julie Felix,Martin Carthy, and unfortunately the Spinners and The Corries.Luckily, all the best tracks are on side 2 and  only 25 pence from the Heart Foundation shop in London Road.

Betty Wright - Travellin' In The Circle (TK LP) - a later album from the "Clean Up" woman from 1979. Not played yet.  EDIT - just played it ,and it's mostly crap disco. WHAT A SHAME!

Great Ellingtonians - A Tribute To Duke Ellington (EMI 2LP)

I wonder if any of these appear in that collection?
