Yesterday. ....

Been listening to some Easy Tempo compilations and they are all so fine and funky easy jazzy grooves and Ihave about ffive of them already. .. must get some more as they are always in limited supply.

Anyway, after a morning of doing some paperwork and then a free £25 per head meal with a work colleage at La Strada (she was doing a mystery shop there) i travelled to London on a cheap £6 return ticket to do some shops and vist Bongolia (aka Michael) to pick up my bunch from his freebie giveaway.

First some nice finds in the city -

Introducing George Freeman with Charlie Earland Sitting In (Giant Step)
Doug Carn - Adam's Apple (Black Jazz) - a reissue

all for three quid each

and two singles at a quid each -

O'Jay - One Night Affair (Neptune)

These are the ones that Michael reserved for me which i picked up earlier this evening -

Brian Fahey and His Orchestra - Stereo Explosion (EMI Starline)  - nice easy cheese
Elektrik Cokernut - Go-Moog! (MFP) - mad groovy "Jungle Juice"
Graham Walker Sound - Famous TV Themes (Saga) with "Mission Impossible" etc. and a rare beast of a record
Len Hunter Collection - Swing Gently With Strauss (Contour) - toptally funky classical with fender Rhodes piano!!!
Paraffin Jack Flash Limited - Movers'n'Groovers (Pye) - another rare beasty and fine beaty stuff it is too.
Peggy Lee - Is That All There Is? (Capitol) - smooth as silk, and "Don't Smoke In bed" is gorgious
Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band - Gorilla (Sunset ) - crazy Dadaist pop group bar none

plus a load of extra albums i didn't expect for me to choose from his pile on the carpet , totalling 12 extra ones including the following goodies -

Hamilton Bohannon - Keep On Dancing (Dakar LP)  - big on the funk here
Hamilton Bohannon - Phase II (Mercury LP) -  bit more disco but still funky
Various - The Harvest Bag (Harvest LP) - nice comp with East Of Eden,Edgar broughton band,Roy Hrper,The Move etc.
James Last - Super Stereo 74 (Polydor LP) - real funky groove in "Sing A Simple Song" ,a Sly Stone number no less.

T oday was our monthly meeting at a local eatery, better known as the BMRC  (Brighton Market Researchers Club) event. This time we chose Riddle and Finns, using an Agus deal offer. Me,GC,Leslie and Christine,. They had the prawn with avocado starter and i had delicious battered whitebait. For the main we all had the Dover Soul, white or rose wine (included in the offer) and coffee to follow. The food was lovely and tasty, and the service was good if a little pushy wanting us to take on a desert as well. Also they added a £1 per person cover charge on top as well as including a seperate service charge. Sneeky bastards!!

Anyway just phoned them and they were very apologetic as it should have been offered to us if we wanted bread which this charge is for,so they are happy to refund the three quid - a result!!

But we will not use them again and use a different venue for next month.

Yesterday GC and myself had a gorgious meal at La Strada in the marina. Excellent food and excellent service. Perhaps we could use La Strada next time as they do a lunchtime meal offer or for cheaps as chips the excellent carvery at the Saltdean Tavern.

On the way back from the meal and having a pint of ale at the Lord Nelson pub decided to go charity shopping and found the following albums for 50 pence each -

Horst Jankowski - Return To The Black Forest (Rediffusion) - nice version of Eleanor Rigby on it.
Edward Woodward - This Man Alone (DJM) - great ttitel track and another grovy version of Eleanor Rigby

then went home contacted the restaurant about the cover charge and returned to Riddle and Finns and got the £3 cover charge back as we did not have a bread basket.
