Having some time ago listened to "Never The Same" CD (again) and that wonderful Nic Jones track "Annan Water" i forgot (well recently prompted) to mention Peter Sundae and his chart of quality folk music - as i had downloaded the track and then after playing it realised i had it already on said comp.

"I really miss having a local folk club. The pump house folk night in Watford closed down due to lack of interest some time ago now, they still have an open mic thing giong on but it's not the same obviously. The chap that ran the club kept booking duffers (in my opinion). However on the last farewell cos we're closing, he booked Martin Cathy,Norma Waterson and daughter Eliza. A cue had formed out the door and when the organizer turned up seeing the cue he pronounced to everyone waiting, in a loud voice 'Well, if only we'd have had these numbers every week we wouldn't be having to close down' he was very irritated and I did feel sorry for him, but maybe he hadn't been booking the right artists.
The place has great acoustics, no mics needed, and the gig was fantastic !! A lot of emotion going on, and Martin was genuinely upset at another folk club winding up.
In the last few years though I feel folk music has picked up a larger following with trendy folk comp CD's etc and I'm giving serious thought to approaching the pump house with a view to start one up again. I think it would be fitting to book Cathy again for the re-opening night.
I ran a DJ night for a while at the same venue, so i know the place and the volunteers who keep it going. They have a trad jazz night which is always packed, so that's encouraging with a view to trying a folk night again.
For me it's a real old school experience..pint of bitter, packet of peanuts and surreal conversation with the original bearded freaks.."
.. and continues ..
"Well I did give it some serious thought and decided to go ahead with starting a new folk club. As ever not quite as simple a these things seem, but after three changes of venue and many emails/phone calls with a management company negotiating a fee to everyone's liking, I'm glad to say it's all happening.
Mr folk himself
MARTIN CARTHY will be appearing at Chorleywood memorial hall on the 6th DEC.Tickets £10 each
Feat. the boards very own
ELLEN MARY McGEE and my good friend
JULES LANDAU as supporting acts.
Now I know this is along way off, but Martin is a very busy man. I did have a date in OCT but he's going to be in the studio recording a new Brass monkey album apparently and other dates didn't tie in with availability at the venue, which is lovely by the way, capacity 200 with large stage and wooden school hall feel (if you what I mean) it's overlooking Chorleywood common with a nice little pub 2 mins walk away, also close to the met station which helps.
Obviously I will drop more details on the board nearer the time. Still work to be done with promotion and ticket sale etc and I expect to break even, if any profits are made from the night it goes into the folk club and towards the next one, I'm doing this purely for the love of.
Ellen and Jules are both playing support for free which is highly commendable and I thank them both for entering into the spirit of things.
In fact like Hugh's offer of his services, I've found many friends who are very willing to put their own time and energy into helping out and I've put together a small group of helpers for the evening from around Watford. Whether helping on the door or designing a web page etc.
I'm sure a few of you on here might like to come, so I'll keep you posted nearer the time

Now then,i think there are still a few pubs down here that have folk evenings. It is worth investigating.
And if you like folk (like me) music, explore his chart as it has downloads of some lovely folk music.
