London Brillo
Jun. 10th, 2008 08:56 am Yesterday in London to exchange some rekkies at MVE and seek out chazzers and odd places for vinyl grooves. Also, dropped off work for HPI before bussing over to Angel end of the city to meet the London "vinyl Vultures" and get some food before we descend upon Filthy McNasty's Whisky Cafe for the June London Brillo.
Met a few of the guys ,and my contact Eclipsechaser, at a noodle bar oposite Angel underground station. I descended upon the pub first in my enthusiasm without realisng that they would be meeting at the noodle bar first but it is only a five minutes walk between the two places.
Filthy McNasty is a fine pub with Black Sheep Ale on tap. Enjoyed a few of those that night. Funny how beer and music go well together.

This was my first Brillo and it wont be my last either. Worth the trip from sunny Brighton. Great tunes and once again hearing tunes that i have not heard before. Very educational! . I enjoyed your set Alanmck, even the Los Dourados.
Anyway this is what i played from memory -
The Big Three - Cavern Stomp (Decca 7")
Cliff Nobles and Co. - The Horse (Direction 7") - claasic instrumental groove
The rest were album tracks -
Mel Torme - Secret Agent Man (CBS)
Billy Larkin and The Delegates - Dallas Blues (Mercury)
Trini Lopez - Gonna Get Along Without you Now (Reprise)
Dionne Warwick - You Can Have Him (Pickwick)
The Hollies - I Take What I Want (MFP)
Jnr Walker - Moody Junior (Soul) - although i had intended to play "Groove Thang" , still this too is a sassy tune.
Aphrodites Child - Let me Love Let Me Live (Philips)
Jimmy McGriff - Stump Juice (Groove Merchant) , this caused some interest. An album only bought the same day,and listening to the rest of the LP this morning. A great funky jazz album!
It was great meeting the guys as the only one i knew from his occasional freebiees was Bongolia.
Nice meeting Limod1 too and the new guy to the forum, Bestdressedchicken ( love that name mate!)
I look forward to the next one in July!
