Mixing It

Las t night i did my first no-break 70 min mix using the new deck with the old one and ripped to a single mp3 file and then burned it on to a CDR. All 45 singles, and the variation in volume was quite remarkable and tricky to get right on the PC VU meter, and some are over-recorded whilst others need a bit more poke or volume. These are early days and i should be able to perfect the mix next time. It will be even better when the old Bush is sold and the second direct drive turntable is in place.

All my CDRs i create from the vinyl go to the EveningStar and the last two also went to my brother [personal profile] coming42 He said one of my CDRs i sent him was cool (except for the Bruce Forsyth doing Bary White) but he hasn't commentated on the other one yet.

This is perhaps one reason to visit the Phonica shop in London assuming that this young lady works there!

Just realised i haven't done this for awhile - despite still buying the rekkies over the last week and a half. Busy with work and other things. Also could not be arsed doing photos.

Today from the outside flea market -

The Sweet and The Pipkins "Gimme Dat Ding" (MFP)
Glad findig this for a quid as it contains the mind-blowing "The Juicer" by the Sweet!

Various "Groovy Vol.2" (IRMA) - a double LP compiltion. Sorry i love my comps - it's subtitled "A Collection of Rare Jazzy Club Tracks" - their words not mine - but it's a bloody fine collection of groovy tunes. A snip at £4 for a newish release.

Don Cheery "Hear and Now " (Atlantic)
For me find of the day, a sealed original of this cool album. A bit more expensive than the others but £6 was a fair price i thought.

Nancy Sinatra "Boots" (Reprise)
Another nice find for a quid, a bit crackly in places but a great version of "Day Tripper" makes this a solid record for me.

Hank Mobley "A Slice of The Top" (Blue Note(
Another amazing pick-up for £3, a late 70s reissue but excellent jazz within.

Cleo Laine "I Am A Song" (RCA)
A quid punt but worth it for her version of "High Heal Sneekers" which is so funky!

From the rest of last week got these -

Traffic - Shoot Out At The Fantasy Factory (Island)
Michael Nesmith - Tantamount To Treason (RCA)
Tony Hatch - Downtown With Tony Hatch (Marble Arch)
J D Blackfoot "Southbound and Gone" (Fantasy)
Diane Solomon - Take Two (Philips)
Anita Baker - Rapture (Elektra)

This bunch was six for a quid from the London Rd charity shop i visit. Wicked version of Sunshine Superman on the Diane Solomon LP.

Brand new stuff too -

Sharon Jones and The Dap Kings - "100 Days 100 Nights" (Daptone)
Awesome third album by them.

Ersen - Ersen (Finders Keepers)
More strange Anatolian folk-funk psyche grooviness.

Then some freebies came my way (thanks fellas)

Robyn Archer - The Wild Girl In The Heart (Larrkin)
Blue Mink - The Best of (Philips)
- "Mind Your Business" is so garagey psyche groove to me.Made me sit up and fall off my chair!
Jack Parnell - Great Film Scores Of The Seveties (MFP)
Jack Parnell - More Top Tv Themes (MFP)
The Kane Gang - Respect Yourself
12" single

From my London trip when i went to Brillo these were the pick of the bunch from trades only -

Various Artists - Tempo Jazz (Right Tempo)
Another great Italian comp of jazzy tunes
Various - Between Or Beyond The Iron Curtain" (Crippled Dick Hot Wax)
Bllody marvelous jazz comp from artsts from the old eastern bloc!
Zbigniew Namyslowski Quintet - Kujaviak Gone Funky (Muza)
My first Muza record and it's an ace funky groove of an album. perhaps the other jazzheads on this forum can point me towards other Muza albums worth getting.

So in all some solid stuff and with given the last Prefuse 73 album "Preparations" on vinyl (with free extra CD!) it has been a good ten days.
