Just So ..
Dec. 10th, 2009 04:12 pmI had a good day yesterday with some nice orders via the Discogs website. It all helps of course. However, what i would like is a good win on the lottery but that is stacked against you, isn't it?
Anyway, spoke to Tim the other day and although he has spoken to my brother i still don't know if
coming42 is coming to the funeral of our uncle, otherwise it will be an expensive train ride for me. Tim did say that my bro' would call my cousin to confirm his availability but i have heard nothing as yet.
This morning i listened to some Shirley Collins LP's. She is a fine folk singer and lives in our lovely county of Sussex. I believe she is now retired from singing but her voice enlivened many fine folk albums and collaborations such as the Albion Country Band and Morris On.
Her anthology "Within Sound" is a wondrous 4 CD box set that any folkie must own.
I sorted our some records for my gig at the Northern Lights tomorrow. GC is planning to come along. If she does it will be my third gig she has been to. Previously, it was once at the Quadrant and once at the Hampton Arms. I have a mix of soul, funk, jazz, salsa, exotica and some old shouting blues stuff in my bags for tomorrow's festivities. It should be a good night but i just hope that Mauu will give me a Xmas bonus in my fee!! You listening Manu!!
Tomorrow i hope to take a trip to London as i have lots of stuff to exchange in Notting Hill and it is the best place in the city to find some interesting slabs of vinyl. It really depends on how much i get for the books, magazines and vinyl i shall take with me.
The premier of AVATAR is on tonight in London. This is James Cameron's latest film and it looks really good. Being bit of a science fiction fan this actually appeals to me although i doubt it would be a film that GC would watch.
SPOOKS continues to be entertaining as it was last season with scenarios quite close to reality. The recent one is where the British banking system is in the throes of going bankrupt. Quite apt concerning the situation with what happened last year and still continues with the outcome of that. Personally i think no banks should offer bonuses unless they can prove they have made a profit. It would not happen in any other business. Bonuses are only paid on profit, not losses, so why would the banks be any different.
I really do not look forward to Xmas. It is so over commercialized and hypocritical. I would rather just go out have good food and good beer and not bother with Xmas cards and pressies. It is just not what the original spirit of the festive season use to be.
With that gripe out of the way i do look forward to tonight's dinner at The Holiday Inn with GC. I shall report on it tomorrow.
