I just checked the last time [livejournal.com profile] coming42  posted here (apart from the 7 Jan this year) and it was May last year. It seems that most people have migrated to Facebook or Twitter. I do use FB but how do you edit your comments if you make a mistake or just re-edit without deleting the whole comment.I still like LJ for its more serious blogging feel to it.

Last Saturday i had a twinge in the wrist which turned out to be  a sprain, and it was very painful, but with a wrist band and Nurofen it cleared up by Monday. I did not bother going out til Tuesday (the FTLC day) and i need to post off an LP off before meeting GC and Lesley for lunch at La Tasca. I also got the latest Shindig magazine from W.H. Smiths.

Last night saw a programme on TV called Dear Diary (BBC 4) and it was quite fascinating on why people write diaries and keep diaries. It discussed some famous ones such as The Diary Of Anne Franks and the fictional Adrien Mole diaries. The modern equivalent to a diary would be the blog. Are blogs the modern version of the diary? Do people still write in a secret dairy using handwritimg rather than some form of electronic media? Or is it a dying pastime?

Interestingly enough the programme that followed it posed the question of the importance or not of the political diary

Yesterday was cold and chilly. At least it was dry but again we woke up to fresh snow this morning. It is getting tiresome now the novelty of it has dissipated. I look forward to a steady rise to milder weather and wish at the same time i had the chance to be in the south of Spain where Pam swanned of to im December for six months.

Books

This morning i have been listening to the music of Charles Ives, and i have followed that by reading a biography of him picked up from a charity shop some months back. I use to read quite alot of fiction but found diaries, biographies and factual books more absorbing and stimulating. I still read books on music.Added to that is books on philosophy and art. I always search charity shops for good art books but finding philosophy books in a charity shop is trickier. I find Sandpiper Books in the North Laines a cornucopia of delights and so try to avoid popping in there too often otherwise i end up with too many books and groaning shelves.

I did try MVE last time in Notting Hill for philosphy books but was diappointed. They are stronger with art books. Perhaps my next visit to the capital will include a walk down Charing Cross Road, famous for bookshops (depending on which independents are still trading) , and Foyles as well.

After watching the two George Smiley DVDs i am now keen to read the novels of John LeCarre starting with "The Spy Who Came In From The Cold". His cold war spy novels really appeal to me.

The Charles Ives records played were  -

String Quartets No. 1 & 2 -
The Concord String Quartet (Nonesuch LP)

and

Sonatas for Violin and Piano -
Paul Zukofsky and Gilbert Kalish (Nonesuch 2xLP)
