Lewes and Hove (Actually)
Apr. 25th, 2010 08:03 amSaturday GC and I had coffee at Costa in Hove (she was doing a mystery shop) after i had my morning tanning outside the back of the house. After she left i did some surveillance of the charity shops and popped in to see Julian at Fine Records. The Oxfam bookshop was the only chartiy with interesting books.
Bought two from there. "Socialism For Beginners" (Unwin Paperbacks) and "Understanding Power, The Indispensable Chomsky" edited by Peter Mitchell and John Schoeffel (The New Press).
I also bought a vinyl sampler "Super-Duper Blues" (Blue Horizon LP 1969) for £1.99
I bought an LP from Fine Records -
Boulez Conducts Berg, Chamber Concerto and 3 Orchestral Pieces - BBC SO / Boulez (CBS)
The number of charity shops in Hove seems to have grown since last time i visited, especially in George Street
I then took a bus ride back to Brighton and popped into the Evening Star pub to have a pint of Thornbidge Murmansk Baltic Porter (7.4% ABV). Dark and yummy!
Whilst in the pub met Rob, who i haven't seen for awhile, and he introduced me to another author which i shall look out for.
Then it was time to watch Dr.Who and the return of the screaming angels. Do not blink or they will get you!
Friday was another morning of tanning myself. Afternoon was spent in the pub reading a book. Posted off an LP and a CD from Discogs. Seems to be ticking over quite ncely infact.
Thursday GC and I went to Lewes for two mystery shops, Costa Coffee shops at Tescos and in the main high street. Afterwards whilst she was looking for swimwear for her forthcoming holiday in Turkey i looked around the charity shops and again found the Oxfam to have the best choice of books.
Bought two papeback books from there -
"Marx Before Marxism" by David McLellan (Penguin)
"Sartre" by Hazel Barnes (Quartet)
Picked up some free bookmarks as well. I shall be doing alot of reading over the next few days.
Still surprised on how well Fulham did against Hamburg away on Thursday keeping them to a goalless draw. However they need to up their game next week in the return at Craven Cottage and make sure Hamburg don't get an away goal advantage. They are only one step away from the Europa Cup final.
