Wednesday was a day for round tripping. Started at Faversham , then to Canterbury, next up was Ashford and finally Maidstone. All mastery shops, and no time to do any charity shop perusals.

Cousin had to go and see the chiropractor to sort out his bad back. He has a trapped nerve, which is causing him such severe pain, but at £35 a time is not cheap, especially when you are on a limited income. Phil, at the Dover Castle, totally recommended him.

Sad to hear the passing of the news of a true innovator, Steve Jobs, who gave us such cool , and generally useful, gadgets. Apple may have its detractors but you cannot deny the cool styling.

We were up at the Dover Castle for the jazz night. The band was good, although not quite my style of jazz, but the pub was packed out. In general, a success. However, as noted with Phil, it does need a younger set more tuned to a cooler or funkier jazz vibe. Some of the tunes sounded like the Chris Barber or Humphrey Littleton era.

This was the first one and will become a regular first Wednesday of each month gig.

Also, RIP to Bert Jansch, a great folk hero of mine , and former member of Pentangle. I saw him once many years ago and he was electric live. His sixties music was sublime. “Needle of Death” , despite a harrowing song, is one of my favourites. I must play some of his music at my next DJ gig.

Plus at the weekend the death of Sylvia Robinson, head of All Paltinum Reciords, and the godmother of rap by bringing us the Sugarhill Gang and Grandmaster Flash on her Sugarhill imprint. Also for her sexy hit single from the 70's  "Pillow Talk".
