Margate Is ......
Oct. 22nd, 2011 12:22 amThat notorious and revered blogger
coming42 (and now tweeter) is in Kent tomorrow and apparently is going to take Tim on an ornithological excursion, and then have a juicy Chateaubriand down at The Dover Castle. Just hope that
philguv will do it as he likes it. You bet it will be with Phil.
Wednesday I visited Margate for the first time, since I was a kid I think, and really never needed to go there all my adult life, as i equated it with going to Blackpool. Both send a shudder down my spine. Its fading beauty has long gone and now we are left with a blot on the landscape.
What a tawdry town it has become. The shithole of the East Kent coast. I feel sorry for any decent folk still living there. Even Tracy Emin hates her own town!
Whilst in this sad apology for a seadide resort I visited a Heart Foundation charity shop. Bought two books and a cardigan for the winter. I must admit I couldn’t get out the town fast enough!
Today, on my journey to the glorious Sussex coast, I stopped in Maidstone for a bite (not Greggs this time) at Subway and to peruse the charity shops. I was walking up Week Street and decided to pop into the YMCA chazzer.
Glad I did. Came out with three books for 29p each.
“Easy Riders Raging Bulls” Peter Biskind (Bloomsbury)
“Fatherland” Robert Harris (Arrow)
and
“The Beach” Alex Garland (Penguin)
all very clean and spanky new
I teh went down to the Wetherspoons pub and had a pint of Beartown Wojtek (5.8 % ABV),which is named after a famous Polish army bear.
Watched a bit of QI tonight, but my mind was wandering elsewhere ,and feeling sleepy, so will watch again on catch-up TV.
