Beer Books and Xmas Pressie Ideas
Nov. 18th, 2011 10:46 pmYesterday I went over to Canterbury to do a visit, and whilst in this glorious lovely city, I had a few beers at the Bell and Crown pub and at the Westgate Inn, a Wetherspoons outlet. I had a pint of Hopdaemon Green Dragon (5% ABV) and a pint of Lodden Brewery Russet Ale (4.5 % ABV), a multi-grain bitter by all accounts.
Picked up a couple of charity shop paperbacks cheaply, Plato's “The Republic” (Oxford World Classics) and Matsuo Basho “The Narrow Road To The Deep North and Other Travel Sketches” (Penguin). Two more purchases today as well , William Golding “Lord Of The Flies” (Faber) and Patrick Suskind “Perfume, The Story Of A Murderer” (Penguin), both in Sittingbourne.

There are some books I would like for Xmas (hint hint), the new Oxford Companion To Beer, and Brian Cox's latest “The Quantum Universe”.

Interesting post from
thecrimsonsky on the 20th anniversary of “Achtung Baby” by U2., with him and cousin, Spot, photographed next to a real Trabant fixed to an advertising hoarding in Cromwell Road as part of the poster for the album's release, and had a fascinating comment with
poliphilo on historical novels.
Next Thursday I will be off to the Sussex coast for a few days , so I might pick some quality stuff then.
