A great jazzman passed away this week, Sam Rivers, whose 60's albums on Blue Note were at the forefront of the avant garde.

It is funny how history mirrors rather than repeats events in the past. With the release of documents pertaining to the eighties it is interesting to note that the riots in June mirror similar riots back in 1981. Between April 10 and 12 riots broke out in Brixton followed by further riots in July in London, Moss Side,Southall, Toxteth and Wood Green.

As in 2011, the Arab world was tense when US planes shot down two Libyan fighters in the Gulf of Sidra, and closer to home, relations with France was fractious with the French president at the time wanting a chair in the Cabinet room.

Unemployment was at its highest then as it is now , although, so far this time round it has yet to peak.

It reminds me of a soul song that says what comes around goes around.
