Yesterday I took an excursion to Rochester, Chatham and Bromley. I first stopped off in Rochester and visited a Cancer Research charity shop, and bought a classic novel and a Lonsdale T shirt, and then went over to Chatham to do another visit. The novel is on the current World Book Night list , Charlotte Bronte’s “Jane Eyre” (Penguin).

I then ended up in Bromley for my final visit in the Glades shopping centre. This is four times larger than the Churchill shopping centre in Brighton. It is quite massive.

This morning a super cool pair of Goldring noise cancelling headphones arrived , a gift from my brother [livejournal.com profile] coming42. What a powerful superb firm sound. Music sounds so crisp and punchy using them. It does not come as no surprise, that I am enthralled by them. Tried them already on the laptop, and I am blown away. Wow!

Talking of music, BBC 4 had programmes on jazz last night, but more of that later.

The rain did not come till late afternoon so it allowed me to visit two charity shops in Whitstable this late morning.

I also had a pint in the Wetherspoons pub. Quaffed a very satisfying Ringwood Forty Niner (4.9 % ABV).

The books I bought, with some on a “buy one get one free offer” were -

Frank McCourt “Angela's Ashes” (Flamingo)
Matt Ridley “Genome” (Fourth Estate0
Ruth Rendell “The Monster In The Box” (Arrow)
Sophie Hannah “The Superpower Of Love” (Random House)
Salman Rushdie “Midnnight's Children” (Vintage)
Alan Biermann “Great Ideas In Computer Science” (MIT Press)

I also bought a DVD, the Coen Brothers “The Man Who Wasn't There” and a CD which I might l sell online, along with some of the books.

The CD is by Janet Jackson (don't laugh) , her “Janet” album from 1993. First track (That's The Way Love Goes) is quite cool and funky.

Now I am going to relax and listen to some music through the new headphones, starting with the aforementioned album.

Last night as I intimated earlier in a blog entry I watched some fascinating documentaries on BBC 4, starting with a look back at Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club in Soho , then “1959, The Year That Changed Jazz” followed by “Sonny Rollins, Beyond The Notes” . A smorgasbord of great jazz in fact.

These four albums are definite landmarks in the history of jazz.

I love good jazz and these programmes on BBC 4 were right up my street.
