We Can Remember It For You Wholesale
Aug. 29th, 2012 09:10 pmToday I saw the new 2012 remake of Total Recall, originally done in 1990 and based loosely on a t 1966 short story "We Can Remember It for You Wholesale" by Philip K. Dick. Unlike the original film and short story, the plot does not include a trip to Mars, and is somewhat more political and earthbound. .The film blends Western and Eastern influences, most notably in the settings and dominant populations of the two nation states in the story: the United Federation of Britain, and the Colony.
It was a good action movie and some exciting action scenes but actually, I still prefer the original film version.
Anyway, afterwards I took the bus back to central Ashford and had a pint of beer at the local Wetherspoons.
Beforehand , in Faversham I popped into the Faversham Society secondhand bookshop and bought a few paperbacks.
These are -
Hugh Honour - Romanticism, Style and Civilization (Penguin)

Harald Fritsch - Quarks, The Stuff Of Matter (Pelican)

Doris Lessing - The Golden Notebook (Harper Perennial)

I have been reading the “Last Shop Standing” book, and it has wonderfully funny anecdotes from the independent record shop scene with moments giving me a good old belly ache of a laugh.
