Yesterday was one of those days a lot got accomplished. I completed three mystery shops around the lovely countryside of Kent and nipping just into the adjacent county of East Sussex.
I left on the 9.05 am bus to Faversham. I popped into a few charity shops whilst waiting for my connecting bus to Ashford. Glad I did. I found five albums you will not normally find in chazzers at Shelter and only a quid each! Three in the jazz fusion genre, one reggae LP and an Afro one.
They are -
Bob James - Heads (Tappen Zee)
Mongo Santamaria - Red Hot (Tappen Zee)
Azymuth - Light As A\Feather Milestone)
Sly Dunbar - Sly Wicked and Slick (Virgin Front Line)
King Sunny Ade and His African Beats - Aura (Sunny Ade Nigeria)

The Sly Dunbar LP alone is worth £12 on Discogs.

I then caught the 11 bus from Ashford to New Romney to do my first visit. I bought three books, a DVD and a CD from there. Then waited for the connecting 100 bus to Rye., passing Camber Sand which was famous for classic Soul Weekenders in the seventies and eighties.

Red Cross chazzer New Romney
In Rye I had to visit another delightful cornucopia of music vinyl and CD’s, the wonderfully named Grammar School Records. Loads of cheap vinyl and some really rare stuff plus a good selection of African 45’s., plus some top notch jazz. Tempted, I bought one on the African Beat label. Wished I had more time to peruse though.

Rye , weather was a bit overcast

I was thirsty so decided to have a pint of Landlord at one of the oldest pubs in the town.

It was time to continue my journey onto Tenderden via the 312 bus. Once I alighted I did a further two visits. Picked up more books, and another CD.
The CD is by the Academy of Ancient Music doing versions of Mozart’s Horn Quintet, Oboe Quartet and Horn Quintet (L'Oiseau-Lyre ). Quality music from a top notch ensemble.

Once I did the two charity shop visits I then waited for the 2 bus back to Ashford and the 666 to Favesham, arriving back at base just after 6.30 pm.
The weather was good to me, not a drop of rain till the evening..
