Cool Jazz It Is Not
Sep. 19th, 2012 07:57 pmToday did a mystery shop in Sittingbourne after visiting Faversham earlier to sell off some books at Past Sentence.
This evening I am currently listening to the “Cool Jazz” programme on SFM Radio hosted by Andy Field. Cool jazz, my arse!!! The music that he is playing is best described as soul or jazzy soul or jazz fusion lite - the sort of soft stuff that Jazz FM use to peddle under the misnomer of jazz. I think he should call his programme “Jazzy Soul” as it is a better description of the music he is playing.
Now if he played something like Benny Golson’s “Killer Joe”, well that is a cool jazz number or anything y the Five Corners Quintet. For fuck sake I would love to take over this spot , because then it would be a cool mixture of jazz, soul, funky jazz, latin jazz and the shades between.
Don’t get me wrong, the music is good, and it would be the kind of music I would play on my DJ nights, and not the sort you normally get on day time commercial radio, but to be truthful the Russ Dewsbury programme on Brighton’s Juice FM on every Sunday is way much better than this. Take note SFM.
