"Nineteenth-Century Britain: A Very Short Introduction" Christopher Harvie, H. C. G. Matthew (Oxford)

Nineteenth-Century Britain: A Very Short…

Chronologically confusing, following themes rather than a reign by reign or government by government approach.

My overall impression of this British history series is that they work better as refresher courses rather than introductions, despite the title. Parts are good, worth skimming through and picking out the sections and chapters of interest and for the recent bibliography.

I suggest a more thorough introduction to the period than these books.

Popped into Faversham this morning to get some pipe tobacco. I was hoping that my bookshop where i sell books to would be open but alas he wasn't, and then i realized  it was a \Monday and normally he does not open that day.

Been listening to some music today, particularly Charles Mingus and some classical music as well.

Last night i watched the second installment of that French supernatural thriller on Channel Four called The Returned. Very existential, very Lynchian in style and atmospheric and the woozy esoteric  music by Scottish indie band Mogwai seems to complement the enigmatic strangeness. Definitely will watch the next episode now.
