Serendipity can never be assured but then the hand of fate mano-a-mano with a good knowledge of book finding comes up trumps. On my visit to Thanet today I had to shop some Sue Ryder bookshops. The first port of call in Cliftonville, a suburb of Margate, unearthed a copy of a classic philosophical text, Immanuel Kant's "Critique of Pure Reason" in a batch of books for a quid - that is four for a quid.

I also picked up a number of books at other sites in Birchington on Sea and in Tankerton, including William Shatner's autobiography of his "Star Trek" years. Also, a couple of screenplays form two films "Fargo" and "Jackie Brown" made this trip a very fruitful one.

Also from the haul -

Rudyard Kipling - Kim
Kurt Vonnegut - The Sirens Of Titan
Jeanette Winterson - The Passion
Peter Ackroyd - Hawksmoor
Stephen Oppenheimer - The Origins Of The British
Jill Rowan - The Legacy
Tom Cox - Nice Jumper
Alfred Dunhill - The Pipe Book

The book on pipes is a hardback book from 1969 complete with dust jacket in top notch condition. A rare beast of a book as far a s charity shop finds are concerned.
