Are We Afraid Of Boredom?
Sep. 4th, 2013 10:53 amDuring the summer recess of parliament BBC Radio 4 had a series nighttime called Summer Nights. The last one was on "Are We Afraid of Boredom?". This was quite fascinating and entertaining, and i thought to myself how boredom itself can be negative or positive. Negative in the sense of wasting one's time away and positive in that it allows you to reflect and dwell upon the beauty of things around you. For me, boredom is rarely a case of being fed up with the world, but a chance to enjoy the stillness, and the quiescence one gets with being in a temporal flux of reverie. It is the well of creativity which constant stimuli does not allow. I am not afraid of boredom as it is a quiet respite from the rush of life..
This Radio 4 discussion on boredom is still available on the radio iPlayer and i recommend you listen to it.
