A high tide is expected at some point today which means that the creeks around Oare, Faversham and Sittingbourne will be on flood alert. I was going to visit Canterbury today but i shall leave that till tomorrow afternoon once I did my stint at the Office (for two hours) and assuming that public transport isn't disrupted. I also have a mystery shop in Sittingbourne as well. It will a dream of a visit (clue there!).

A bit of nostalgia from my childhood now , and with talking to [livejournal.com profile] malinaldarose here is a clip from the seventies childrens sci-fi programme.

Been listening to this excellent reissue from Trunk Records as well. Note that Delia Derbyshire (of BBC Radiophonic Workshop fame)  had a hand in this too.

A true legend has passed away today. A person who led his people out of the misery of apartheid and became the most respected citizen of the world. Your iconic status shines on Nelson Mandela.

Nelson Mandela in a file photo from 2010

As one commentator put it -

"Nelson Mandela. It is perhaps not possible to be sufficiently appreciative of a man who, having spent decades locked up for violence against an oppressive regime, emerges full of forgiveness and reconciliation towards that regime, helps it step down peacefully, and then becomes head of a new regime without - and this is the most amazing part - turning into a rancid dictator himself. An accolade too lightly used is true in this case: He deserves to stand with the other great founders of modern nations, like Washington, Atatürk, Masaryk, and Ben-Gurion"
