Old Laptop Presumed Defunct

The old laptop  looks seriously dead now. It must have fell over on the floor during the night whilst i was asleep/ I found it on the floor  this morning and  I have presumed that , perhaps, the cat  has landed on the machine coming from top of the wardrobe, and knocking it over. The screen looks bad, not shattered, but just interference patterns when you boot up..

Now it may be that the video chip has gone, or something more substantial , such as the screen. \if so, \the only thing i would want to recover from the machine is the music folder, which can then go on my external hard drive. Either way, it is either a short trip across the road or Faversham to another computer repair shop and ascertain what they say.

The morning was spent over at the Office, and and finishing just before midday, I got a lift back from one of the other guys who goes there on a Monday.  I then went over the computer shop in the village. He took one look at it and diagnosed that the screen got damaged and the parts for a new one would cost between £70 - £100. Not worth it on an old machine.

So I got him to transfer all my music from from the laptop to my external hard drive. This he has done and now I have all my rare jazz tunes with me, and more importantly, can still do my gigs with the Fujitsu laptop.

Any gig will now be sometime  in the New Year, and I will have to arrange it with the guys at the Northern Lights.

Thank goodness for a backup!

Cleaner

So now that i am down to the one laptop, it is the one that runs on Vista, which i have been reliably informed , it degrades over time. Or to put it another way, slows down as it ages, hence the use of something like C Cleaner to dump out the shit that accumulates.

Still perhaps some time in the New Year an upgrade to Windows 7 would be advisable, plus checking out a RAM upgrade.
