The wind is howling round these parts. The gusts of gale force wind is causing havoc with the trees and half full dustbins move about in chaotic dance and then topple over. Cousin has to get to work in this weather in a few hours. That is dedication. For me, I am curled up in bed with the cat on top of my legs restricting my usual sleep patterns. So, dear reader,I bid you good night.

The Waiting Game
Dec. 24th, 2013 12:50 pmSpot has arrived back from work and now has two and a a half days off.
I had thought of going over to Faversham today to sell some books as I am down to eight quid in total, and next pay day is not till New Years Eve. However, after catching up with two University Challenges and Only Connect , and then having a wash and so on, it was too late to go, so i might do that Friday or Saturday.
The worse of the bad gale force weather is over but the forecast is for more of the same come this Friday."Just great" i thought as it is a day i would want to go out on. Meanwhile, expecting a cheque in the post and a bank transfer to two items sold on Discogs, but these damn bank holidays will extend the clearance times , and thus unlike Pay Pal, the money will not be available within two hours.

Sheppey Bridge
Dec. 24th, 2013 01:14 pm

During the heavy gales yesterday the new Sheppey road bridge was closed but the old one, which runs parallel to it, may have still been in use and thus islanders would have been able to get to the mainland.
However, there are still no street lamps on the new bridge and when it is foggy accidents can happen as it did in September of this year.

My Ten Of The Best
Dec. 24th, 2013 10:53 pmI suppose it is time to do my best finds ot the year music wise , as many seem to be doing their top ten or whatever. Spot has put The Arctic Monkeys "AM" album at the very top of his list. My list does not totally consist of current music and comes from all decades. These are CD's that for some reason i have missed before, or are just new to me. Here is my top ten -
1/ Supersilent - 6 (Rune Grammofon)
Awesome minimalist electronic jazz splattered grooves that grow organically and weave into your brain.
2/ Ennio Morricone - Mondo Morricone (Colosseum)
Superb collection of less well known music from the soundtrack maestro
3/ Antonio Vivaldi , Forma Antiqva, Uri Caine - The Four Seasons (Winter & Winter)
The famous and somewhat overplayed seasons done afresh on baroque instruments with much gusto and vivacity.
4/ Nico Muhly - I Drink The Air Before Me (Decca)
Better than Glass and Reich i think, modern minimalist classical music that goes somewhere.
5/ Basement Jaxx - Rooty (XL Recordings).
How i missed this one when it came out is unfathomable, but glad i got it now.
5/ Groove Armada - Goodbye Country Hello Nightclub (Pepper Records)
I knew of them but this is the first album i have by them, and it is a chilled out sublime groovefest.
6/ Nitin Sawhney - Human (V2 Recordings)
Fusion and ambient grooves meet Asian flavours and hints of the sub-continent.
7/ Jon Lucien - Love Everlasting , The Very Best Of Jon Lucien (BMG)
A superb collection of the finest vocal jazz from this great man.
8/ Laura Nyro - Walk The Dog And Light The Light (Columbia)
My first album by her, and hence some catching up to do. This is a wonderful start.
9/ The Pussycat Dolls - PCD (A&M)
It was Ian who got me into this excellent pop confection. Hardly a bad track and some great covers.
10/ Various Artists - Wild Cool And Swingin' (Capitol)
A cool compilation of swinging late fifties and early sixties jazz vocal grooves
