I was glad to get out yesterday on such a warm glorious sunny day, as this morning when i took out the rubbish it had rained in the night, and  the sky is overcast. I watched an old episode of Stargare SG1 last night on the PIck TV channel. I have also started reading one of the Spike Milligan books i have picked up for free.

I might hop over to Rainham today. This town has a couple of interesting charity shops and a bookshop that specializes
in second hand book. I will take one of my moleskin notebooks with me. I love these little books and i find them a great way to jot down random notes. I seem to collect quite a few of them ,and recently my brother gave me two unused ones.

I have been reading some pages from the Renaissance in Europe text books from an arts course i did some years ago. It is good to keep your mind active and to refresh things that i may have forgotten. I was reading about Isabella d'este . She was the Marchesa of Mantua and one of the leading women of the Italian Renaissance and as a major cultural and political figure.

She was a patron of the arts as well as a leader of fashion, whose innovative style of dressing was copied by women throughout Italy and at the French court. The poet Ariosto labeled her as the "liberal and magnanimous Isabella", while author Matteo Bandello described her as having been "supreme among women".[1] Diplomat Niccolò da Correggio went even further by hailing her as "The First Lady of the world"[1].

She served as the regent of Mantua during the absence of her husband, Francesco II Gonzaga, Marquess of Mantua and the minority of her son, Federico, Duke of Mantua. In 1500 she met King Louis XII of France in Milan on a diplomatic mission to persuade him not to send his troops against Mantua.

She was a prolific letter-writer, and maintained a lifelong correspondence with her sister-in-law Elisabetta Gonzaga. Lucrezia Borgia was another sister-in-law; she later became the mistress of Isabella's husband.

An LJ fiend [livejournal.com profile] engarian put up one of these short quizzes to see what breakfast they are - so i did one and i am not surprised by the result as the traditional English breakfast is my favourite morning meal.

You Are an English Breakfast

You are a very traditional person, but it's not because you're stuffy. You just have a huge appreciation for history and quality.
You love anything that is comforting and made with love. You don't mind things that take longer if they are done right.

You are a bit of a craftsperson or artist, and you're not one to brag about it. You let your accomplishments speak for themselves.
You are a great friend. You love to comfort others, and you are consistently supportive of those you love.

I did this short quiz and it came out as i suspected , although the quiz is geared towards American attitudes. So for liberal i would covert this to socialist.

You Are 10% Conservative, 90% Liberal

Social Issues: 25% Conservative, 75% Liberal

Personal Responsibility: 0% Conservative, 100% Liberal

Fiscal Issues: 25% Conservative, 75% Liberal

Ethics: 0% Conservative, 100% Liberal

Defense and Crime: 0% Conservative, 100% Liberal

Delving into these short quizzes has been an amusing diversion for me today, since i decided not go out but listen to some gamalan music. I came across this one on philosophy  and see what result I would get.  This seems to be about right, or is it ?

You Should Study Epistemology

You're the type of person who is comfortable with uncertainty and more questions than answers.
In fact, it tends to bug you when people are a know-it-alls or unrealistically confident about what they know.

You aren't sure that we know what we think we know, and you believe that knowledge is always evolving.
You like to reflect on whether true knowledge is possible at all. And if so, what can we really know for sure?

Lunacy! How did somebody , perhaps a gang, steal copper wire from underground BT cabling in the Brrighton area where my brother lives. Read his blog here -

Looks like i am a curator of books

Your Bookshelf is Curated

You collect books because you can't imagine a life without reading, especially reading quality stuff.
You can't resist books that are by up and coming authors. You like to be ahead of the curve when it comes to your literary habits.

Your favorite books push you a bit. You don't like reading anything that makes you too comfortable... you like to be challenged.
You read to expand your horizons, perspective, and most of all, your mind. You read to enrich and change your life.

You are the reader that authors dream of. You're willing to give offbeat books a chance, and your taste is expansive.
You treasure your books and take good care of them. You do a lot of culling and buying to make sure you have an impeccable collection.

Just watched (again) the best film of the last few years (in my opinion) based closely on the best novel i have read in the last few years - Cloud Atlas, written by the author David Mitchell.

This is a complex film based on a complex narrative of six linked stories across six distinct timelines that  can be described as an exploration of how the actions of individual lives impact one another in the past, present and future, as one soul is shaped from a killer into a hero, and an act of kindness ripples across centuries to inspire a revolution.

This film has made me hark back to read the novel again which was one of my fifty plus reads in 2012.

Okay, this is definitely the last post of the day. Just a quick note to say that i shall be busy tomorrow doing a number of covert shops in Tonbridge and Paddock Wood, including two charity shops,  and ending with a cinema visit in Medway , so i shall not be posting much at all tomorrow. Thank goodness you might say!
