Poems of The Week
Apr. 5th, 2015 10:16 amWhilst going through old episodes of Buffy i noticed that one of her dates was an Emily Dickinson fan and constantly reading her poetry (Never Kill A Boyfriend On The First Date S1).
The first poem i looked at one caught my attention -
I taste a liquor never brewed
Emily Dickinson, 1830 - 1886
I taste a liquor never brewed –
From Tankards scooped in Pearl –
Not all the Frankfort Berries
Yield such an Alcohol!
Inebriate of air – am I –
And Debauchee of Dew –
Reeling – thro’ endless summer days –
From inns of molten Blue –
When “Landlords” turn the drunken Bee
Out of the Foxglove’s door –
When Butterflies – renounce their “drams” –
I shall but drink the more!
Till Seraphs swing their snowy Hats –
And Saints – to windows run –
To see the little Tippler
Leaning against the – Sun!
There is no frigate like a book
There is no Frigate like a Book
To take us Lands away,
Nor any Coursers like a Page
Of prancing Poetry –
This Traverse may the poorest take
Without oppress of Toll –
How frugal is the Chariot
That bears a Human soul.
