It has been a very warm day reaching about 26 degrees in the afternoon. Took the day off to get some free food at the "fun day" at the hostel. The only thing that interested me was the free nosh!

They had a DJ playing some decent soul and similar stuff and then same crappy pop stuff - so i left to sunbathe elsewhere in the town - the park to be in fact. But not before the free grub was ready.

I had a salad dish with chicken wings followed by a gourmet beef burger and a sausage hot dog.

Took Some pics as well.

Jonathan Smith "Summer In February" (Abacus)

If you're interested in art and enjoy discovering more about the personal lives of artists then you'll enjoy Summer in February. Although this is not a biography Jonathan Smith did extensive original research in order to write the most convincing story about Alfred Munnings, world famous painter of horses, and his life in the artistic community in Lamorna, Cornwall, at the beginning of the 20th Century.

Summer in February is a snapshot in time, covering only a few years prior to the outbreak of WW1 and revolving around the love triangle between Munnings, Florence and the estate manager Gilbert Evans.

Jonathan Smith evokes a wonderful sense of scene. When reading the book you can smell the tang of the sea air mingled with the artist's turpentine. All the characters are well portrayed and by the end of the book you feel that you know them all personally, their desires, their motivations and their passions. I was immersed in this book thoroughly and devoured it in quick time.

Summer in February has now been made into a film starring Dominic Cooper as AJ Munnings, Dan Stevens as Gilbert Evans and Emily Browning as Florence Carter-Wood.

Something weird happened - i was in the WiFI in my local Spoons pub - and then it disappeared as i trying to post my blog on the fun day at the hostel. Not only that - but a post of the Jonathan Smith book review also disappeared. I had to reload that as well, and it was so annoying. Wifi in the pub seems fine now.
