Another lie-in this morning and then caught up with last night's Sherlock.More darker and intense with an unexpected twist that had be gasp in shock and anger in equal proportions. No spoilers so you will have to watch it yourself,but it sure was enthralling.

I also listened to some programmes on the radio , and in particular the Round Britain quiz this afternoon. Val McDermid was on the Scottish teamand they were playing a team from the South of England.

I also read a few chapters from a book on classical Greece and Rome.

If you had a warning label, what would yours say?

Do you get nervous easily? If so, what are some things that make you nervous? If not, describe the last time that you felt really nervous. What were you doing?

Chosen a few about this month -

In January

Poem by Ted Kooser

Only one cell in the frozen hive of night
is lit, or so it seems to us:
this Vietnamese café, with its oily light,
its odors whose colorful shapes are like flowers.
Laughter and talking, the tick of chopsticks.
Beyond the glass, the wintry city
creaks like an ancient wooden bridge.
A great wind rushes under all of us.
The bigger the window, the more it trembles.

January

Poem by William Carlos Williams

Again I reply to the triple winds
running chromatic fifths of derision
outside my window:
Play louder.
You will not succeed. I am
bound more to my sentences
the more you batter at me
to follow you.
And the wind,
as before, fingers perfectly
its derisive music.

January In New York

Poem by Erica Jong

Black ship of night
sailing through the world
& the moon an orange slice
tangy to the teeth
of lovers who lie
under it,
sucking it.

Somewhere there are palm trees;
somewhere the sea
bluely gathers itself up
& lets itself fall again
into green;
somewhere the spangles
of light on the ocean
dazzle the eyes;
but here in the midnight city,
the black ship of night
has docked
for a long, dark stay,
& even the citrus moon
with its pockets of juice
cannot sweeten the dark.

Then the snow begins,
whirling over the Pole,
gathering force over Canada,
sprinkling the Great Lakes with sugar
which drowns in their deep black cups;
it is drawn to the spires of New York
& the flurries come
scampering at first,
lighthearted, crystalline, white,
but finally
sucked into the city
as into a black hole
in space.

The sky is suddenly pink-
pink as flesh: breasts,
babies' bottoms. Night is
day; day is whiter than the desert;
the city stops like a heart;
pigeons dip & veer
& come to rest
under the snow-hatted
watertanks.

I wish that LJ could get 100,000 people to migrate from say Facebook or Twitter as what has happened to DW recently in their latest newsletter.

"The main reason I wanted to post today was to acknowledge and welcome the large influx of people we've been seeing in the past 10 days or so. We've seen a huge increase in new accounts -- over 100,000! This has translated into a raw increase in Dreamwidth usage of about 25% (i.e., our traffic is up 25% compared to two weeks ago)."

Anyway, due th the community [livejournal.com profile] 2017revival i have gained quite a few new friends and bloggers.For these who have friendedme i also urge you to check out the positive and good vibes site we call [livejournal.com profile] positivismnow. It is site that is bound to cheer youup.

Why might Richard Wilson be incredulous at a motorbike, a boys' comic, Dr Frankenstein and the Radio Corporation of America?

What is the connection?
