Well,it has been an overcast if mild Tuesday and tonight it has rained for most of the evening.I have not done much today except for posting another item off that i have sold via Ebay. Most of the afternoon was a siesta. I guess i needed the rest.

Tomorrow though i will be doing some supermarket visits for one of my companies. One of them is in Strood and on the way i will pop into Rochester to purchase some pipe tobacco.

I have not done a post midnight music blog for awhile , and i was thinking of this piece composed by Saint-.Saëns

Saint-Saëns - Symphony No. 3: "Organ Symphony"

The Symphony No. 3 in C minor, Op. 78, was completed by Camille Saint-Saëns in 1886 at what was probably the artistic zenith of his career. It is also popularly known as the "Organ Symphony", even though it is not a true symphony for organ, but simply an orchestral symphony where two sections out of four use the pipe organ. The French title of the work is more accurate: Symphonie No. 3 "avec orgue" (with organ).

Of composing the work Saint-Saëns said "I gave everything to it I was able to give. What I have here accomplished, I will never achieve again."[1] The composer seemed to know it would be his last attempt at the symphonic form, and he wrote the work almost as a type of "history" of his own career: virtuoso piano passages, brilliant orchestral writing characteristic of the Romantic period, and the sound of a cathedral-sized pipe organ.

The symphony was commissioned by the Royal Philharmonic Society in England, and the first performance was given in London on 19 May 1886, at St James's Hall, conducted by the composer. After the death of his friend Franz Liszt on 31 July 1886, Saint-Saëns dedicated the work to Liszt's memory. The composer also conducted the French premiere in January 1887.

If you could take any university class (for free), what would you take?

What subject would you like to redo for free because you were so bad at it?

Another composer that straddles between improv jazz and the classical is Anthony Davis.

Anthony Davis - Variations in Dream-Time (Full Album 1983)

Though it received far less public notice upon its release, Variations in Dreamtime is in many respects a companion album to Anthony Davis' highly regarded Episteme and, in fact, is just as superb. The two lengthy pieces on this recording encapsulate many of his exciting compositional ideas from the early '80s: highly complex, contrapuntal melodic lines; propulsive rhythms in unusual and often overlapping time signatures, a number of which derived from Balinese music; and inspired improvisation from a first-class ensemble, here including the great trombonist George Lewis and the underappreciated clarinet master J.D. Parran. The compositions percolate, roil, and swing, branching out into unexpected territories but always feeling of a piece. There is a near Romantic sense of melodic exploration and, indeed, several themes that Davis would often return to in the next decade are heard here, especially the heartbreakingly lovely melody which became known as "A Walk in the Valley." This record captures Davis on the enticing cusp between avant-garde jazz and the increasingly "classical" direction his music would take in ensuing years.

Difficult to find, Variations in Dream-Time represents Anthony Davis at the pinnacle of his powers and is very highly recommended.

I am in the Medway area about to do a couple of visits. The weather is crap-it has been raining. I have just checked FB and L is attending a concert in London at the O2 with a friend, Louner, seeing Black Sabbath at their last London concert! I am a bit jealous. Then i realised that they were at a coffee shop near the arena and it was Loumer who posted the thing.I just phoned her and we all had a laugh, She said "Do i ever dress in leather, chains, upturned crosses and such like". "Well no" i replied. I had a strange feeling of Paranoid and Paranoid is one of the best albums by Black Sabbath -

So here is one of my fave tunes by them from that album.

Black Sabbath - War Pigs

Rock on L.

Never thought she was into metal!

How do you feel about TV advertisements -- do you enjoy them or find them a waste of time? What commercial has stuck with you the most (whether you loved it or hated it)?

What's your favourite beverage? Is it something you drink daily, or something that's more of a special treat?
