I was going to write a whole essay on the good and the bad of the current season of Doctor Who but then after a false click om the keyboard lost it all with no way of retrieving it.

So rather than retype the whole thing, here are two videos that I find are the most equivocal even-handed of all the recent tirades against the show - this one is more positive and is the one I tend to agree with most.

Part of my argument was that there seemed to be a right-wing red top rag trade and media lead nasties (such as the Sun and Mail) against the new incarnation of the Doctor, and the ethnic diversity and so-called protofeminism of the stories. The misogynistic background of this white-lead male chauvinistic critique seemed to harangue against the idea of an ethnically sexually diverse universe and such political overtones such as universality that is implied. These are the Brexiteers who want to destroy us.

Excuse my rant. Just want to know your opinion of Season 11.

End of Year WHO REVIEW (Part 2 of 2)

As I look out of the window it is overcast and raining. However, there are some blue skies looming and it feels quite mild. In fact, most days have been creeping into double figures.

Brother spoke to APC this morning and obviously gave them a grilling. Apparently, the driver had run out of time. Anyway, he has got them to deliver today with the promise that I will receive the beer package before midday. We wait with bated breath.

With that in mind, I have decided not to go out anywhere, and quite happy to be reading some books. I have been reading quite heavily of late. I believe that keeping the mind active is one method of keeping away the ageing diseases, as well as some exercise such as walking. This is one reason I love to watch shows like University Challange, Only Connect, Fifteen To One, Eggheads, and of course that Quiz one on the net via Facebook.

Oh, glory be, the sunshine has just come out as I am typing.

My phone has just pinged. So, I am back to the Quiz. No longer at number one due to Rose (aka [livejournal.com profile] lindahoyland) stealing my thunder. She is the new number one in our entourage.

Bye for now. OK PHIL - time to be defeated again!

YAY! The beer arrived before midday. Eight bottles of Shep's Christmas Ale at a lovely seven per cent ABV!

May the festivities start - well at least tomorrow and then on the Eve.

And it is a sunshine winter day. Perfect.

Well, it was a nice day till late afternoon when it absolutely poured down. I posted my gift box to my bro and sister-in-law today and then went to have a well-needed haircut. I then popped in for a quick beer in Spoons and noticed that Tim from our complex was with friends, so we had a chat for a while,  and then I walked in the rain to Iceland to get some food for the evening.

I went for a mix, Chinese egg fried rice and Indian pulled pork curry. Fusion style!

I still love digging through old issues of Wire on the Exact Editions website. It has fueled my renewed interest in Bill Evans for a starter, and then there is Steve Lacy, Frank Zappa, and loads more music such as Ennio Morricone. I have printed out the whole primer on the best stuff to get from his incredible oeuvre - such as this gem -

These are less famous than the spaghetti westerns but they are awesome.

Just found some boxed mince pies outside my door in the hallway from John and Helen at number 24 upstairs. He is a lovely guy, quite suave and cultivated, whilst Helen is much younger than him and quite attractive. How sweet.

Hope they are here tomorrow for the festivities.
